Jessica went to UT & Joe went to school at the University of Wisconsin Madison. They met & fell in love in Chicago- then moved to London together for work- because of regulations they had to leave their beloved dog Cosmo behind with his parents. Just so the couple could see him and be a part of the wedding- they drove all the way down from Wisconsin with Cosmo in tow!
More rules- church's don't allow dogs in them either so he couldn't be in the ceremony at St Austins'
( though he was the official ring bearer) so first thing afterwards the wedding party all hopped onto the old "Dillo" Trolley and we stopped by the dog sitters house for some photos : ) then onto the Capitol and downtown for photos before their reception at the Austin Club!

They will reunite with Cosmo on their move back to the States this year!

I love this vintage VW beetle that drives by my house everyday with a cute little luggage rack- so I asked Terry her owner if we could borrow it for the afternoon. ( I used to have a gray one before we moved to NYC). Terry said she was delighted for us to use her "Betsy Beetle"!

It's still a little chilly in Austin so Leia wore her own vintage faux leopard wrap and turquoise pumps.
Leia had wanted a vintage 50's style wedding dress, but couldn't find the right one that wasn't stained yellow from age at the thrift stores. So her awesome Mom offered to make her one. After finally picking a lace and fabric, her mom used one of her old sundresses as a pattern. She spent months sewing, ripping, and resewing. She said they would add a belt, take it away then add it back again- trying difference size buttons before choosing the final one. A month before the wedding - they knew if was perfect.

What an incredible gift to have your Mother make your wedding dress!

They met at an ACL festival- when her brother introduced - she knew it was love at first site! After catching the sunset at the Long Center- we headed to the East side and tried a Pimm's Cup at the East Side Showroom : )

I loved shooting this small wedding at Zilker Botanical Gardens- it was just family and friends with plenty of time after the ceremony for photos before they joined their family for dinner at the Paggi House!

Jonathan's "Sway Table"

This artistic couple spend a summer in the Desert which inspired their wedding. Since the groom is a furniture designer they knew they wanted a comfortable outdoor space for guests to relax. Jonathan custom made a lot of the furniture for the wedding but they also included galvanized metal tables, a tee pee, gold painted tumbleweeds and colloborated with an amazing floral designer - Articulture Designs- they used cacti, succulents air plants along with colored recycled skulls,feathers, wood, glass, bones, turtle shells and snake skins into rusted metal planters for the dinning table.

Valerie said she came up with their unique wedding inspiration from their time in Big Bend.

" We went with what we love and a place that holds memories for us both. We based our theme around Big Bend National Park and the surrounding areas. We truly enjoy the outskirts of BB…Marfa Texas, Chinati Hot Springs, Marathon, Terlingua. It’s a place where life slows down and you feel like you can be free. Jon proposed in Big Bend with Bogart (our dog) by his side underneath a waterfall. Yes, a water fall we hiked into in the middle of the dessert. The desert has a beauty to it that steals your soul.

I was inspired by photos we took while in Big Bend, things we came across and people we met. We wanted it to feel like West Texas with a unique twist. The biggest part to planning is finding the right inspiration. Once you do, you know its right and the rest falls into place. Mostly everything we used in our wedding had a story. The best compliments we received all night was that our wedding “really represented Jon and I down to every last detail.”

For the furniture and tee pee Valerie said,

"The main focus for our wedding was that we simply wanted people to have fun. We also wanted it to represent Jon and I as a couple. One of our pre Mr. and Mrs. life experiences we took together was hiking over 2000 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast. I think that sealed the deal for Jon if he had any doubts if I was the one. Before our departure we had a going away party with friend and family to kick off our happy trails. Jon built a huge teepee in our back yard and it was a huge hit. To us, the teepee represented the beginning of the rest of our lives…plus, we just love teepees! We also wanted to have a relaxed feel to our wedding décor. Still wanted it to be beautiful but we wanted people to feel at home---like they were at a good friends back yard, eating great food, drinking wonderful drinks and in a romantic, natural atmosphere. "

Valerie also choose a non traditional green lace dress from BHLD which she wore with custom jewelry and turquoise and white polka dot D’ Orsays pumps by Bettye Muller.

( unfortunately they got stuck in the mud during the ceremony)!

They gifted their bridemaids and groomsmen with one of a kind unique gifts. For the bridemaids- Valerie choose jewelry specifically made for each bridesmaid and flower girl from Revised in Bastrop. The necklaces are made from vintage pieces selected by the bride that reflected each of personalities and the lockets hold lost vintage photographs! The Groomsmen each received a tie clip with their first initial made from a vintage typewriter key from Petite V.

Even the cakes were unique, the beautiful un frosted wedding cake from Stardust Bakery and the funky green mustached pickle cake from Envy Pastries. Jonathan choose the pickle as a whimisical attempt to represent his Polish /German roots- plus his love for everything pickled!

The wedding wouldn't have been complete with out their faithful dog Bogart as the ring bearer and the amazing polka band Brave Combo rocking the reception.

Valerie & Jonathan's East Austin Engagement!

Valerie and Jonathan live on the East side so it was the perfect location for their engagement portrait! These two fell in love with Big Bend and based their whole wedding around it! They lived in the back of his truck one summer which is where he proposed under a water fall with their dog Bogart by their side. ( he was the ring bearer of course)! they now have little Rita to join the family on their canoe rides on Ladybird Lake and their future camping adventures together!

Leia & Brad's wedding was a colorful crafty family affair. Both of their parents helped with every detail of the wedding! Brad's Dad photographed the whole event on his old Nikon Super 8 camera and his Mom ( an opera singer ) helped Brad practice dancing. Leia 's Mom custom made her wedding dress, she also wore her Mother's wedding veil- and carried the handerchief that her Grandmother , Mom, Aunt and Great Aunt all carried at their weddings! Her Dad made all the wedding signs, the candy bar sign and the record stands. Leia said this is how they came up with their musical centerpieces:

"We choose our 10 favorite artists for the record/table numbers and put the lyrics from the songs that we felt expressed why we wanted to be married. I grew up listening to my parent's old country albums so Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash felt like good picks. Brad's band, Zoo Pilot, of course had to be the head table and one of my favorite songs of his is "All of the Time." Brad's all time favorites, The Kinks, The Beach Boys and The Beatles were also easy choices. The hardest part was narrowing it down to just 10!

Leia and her Mom also made the miniature guitars boutonnieres. They found the guitars (Christmas ornaments) on Amazon then hot glued them together with red guitar pics and hypericuim berries Brad choose specific guitars for each of his groomsmen by either the guitars that they actually played or ones that fit their personalities. His best friend Joshua was the DJ and her best friend from High School did her hair and makeup- they each got the same tattoo!

At the end of the night Brad's sister and Best Wo-man Jill and her beau sang a special song for the newlyweds before their exit !

I loved how this couple incorporated all their favorite Austin locations in their engagement session.
Leia & Brad's first date was at the Ginger Man- (which is where the Ghost Room is now) they had their first kiss at the bottom of the stairs : ) we also went over to the new Ginger Man for a pint in between!
They got engaged at ACL- Leia's inspiration for her engagement photos was a favorite photo she found of Iman and David Bowie by Mario Testino! For their last change of clothes Brad wore the outfit he had on when they first met- a funky vintage shirt and green running shoes.

This fun couple chose the Winfield Inn for it's southern charm and diy-ed all the details including the repurposed desk and chair and window frame that they used for their altar.

I love how Jennifer describes the process herself on her own blog:

First things first: the looks. After choosing our Southern vintage style venue, we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted the wedding party to look like. It was important to us that each and every person in the wedding wore something that reflected their own style and personality. Everyone looked amazing and I can't thank our friends and family enough for being part of our special day.

The ceremony didn't start until 6 p.m., but we were at it all morning and afternoon getting primped and ready for the first look. Hair stylist Liz Nevin and makeup artist Julie Odom met us at the venue bright and early to make us gorgeous and wedding-ready. The girls went with natural make-up and simple up-dos. As part of their bridesmaids' gifts, I got each of them a set of little , and I think they were styled perfectly with each look.

Kyle and I had so much fun planning the look and feel of the wedding. We tried to think about each and every moment of the evening, from the moment when guests entered the venue to sign the guest book down to all the personal touches throughout the reception. We spent so many weekends thrifting, collecting, and DIYing everything we could! Even though our apartment looked pretty nutty for a while, each and ever project was fun (and extremely budget friendly)!

Our welcome table was full of childhood photos and personal items, like my grandmother's wedding photo and her lace tablecloth. One of my favorite elements was the calligraphy by Betsy Dunlap. I LOVE her work, and it was so nice of her to create a piece with our names and wedding date on such short notice!

And I had way too much fun collecting items for all the centerpieces. We carefully selected all of the books, bottles, and postcards for every table, and all of the messages our guests wrote on them were so sweet and hilarious! A friend of mine arranged all of the flowers for us. We chose pom daisies, button poms, and feverfew for the centerpieces and baby's breath for the bouquets. We wanted all the arrangements and bouquets to look natural and clean since we never really settled on a color scheme. The colors in the pom poms, love streamers, and handkerchiefs were subtle and playful, and the ivory flowers blended in nicely.

Jennifer also said she spent a lot time looking for the perfect dress but couldn't find it online - so she commisioned local fashion design, Rachelle Briton, to make one based a Vera Wang favorite.The groom wore a charcoal Indochino suit which was also custom.

This was also the wedding that I broke my toe at the last minute and had to wear a boot but THANKS to Jeff and Sarah Bork Hamilton for running around for me

After a month long honeymoon to Australia and New Zealand- this creative couple will call AUSTIN home.

Happy New Year- we're back and blogging this fun wedding at the 29th Street Ball Room!

This cute couple met through their love of music- first concert together-WILCO! They had plenty of funky DIY details at their wedding- Jessica and her Mom did the florals and Pearl Events- set everything in place!

The bride wore her Mother's beautiful vintage 1973 wedding dress- originally made by her Grandmother in Brazil and the grooms parents & family came all the way over from Japan.

Friends and family enjoyed cocktails in the courtyard as they waited for the ceremony to start then dined & danced inside the ballroom!

I love bright modern colors so this fall wedding at the San Antonio Botanical Garden was styled perfectly by Maid of Honor Emily Leach of Bird dog Weddings! The bride's families supplied all the vintage colored glass dish ware and vases and the florist filled them with a mix of colorful flowers and succulents
( my favorite - the turquoise teapot) Each table included yellow and green chevron pattern runners with golden framed graphic pink numbers made lovingly by her friend Lauren of Creative Parasol. Since there's been a drought in Texas- all the outdoor fountains have been turned off to conserve water- so the Botanical Garden filled there's with gorgeous blue colored glass! The bride choose a classic dress from Unbridaled in Austin and paired it with an elegant floral belt and colored wood heels by Kate Spade- topping it off with a blue ring and green earings by Kendra Scott. The bride and grooms chairs were marked with fabric letters from Anthroplogie! Even the cakes and desserts were colorful with colored dish ware and pink and green ribbon handmade streamers for a sweet exit.
